Cloudchef Technology’s SmartCMP hybrid cloud management platform successfully supported the launch of the Bank of Communications Pacific Credit Card Center’s private cloud infrastructure project in November 2017.

Driven by the wave of internet transformation, the Bank of Communications Pacific Credit Card Center (hereinafter referred to as “BoCom Card Center”) has experienced rapid business growth, placing increasingly high demands on the timeliness of infrastructure resource deployment and base software deployment. To address this, BoCom Card Center decided to build a private cloud infrastructure project, delivering all resources as cloud services to provide convenient and fast access for all development and testing teams, thereby significantly improving R&D efficiency and meeting the current business needs of all departments.

Built on SmartCMP’s infrastructure cloud capabilities, this project provides unified management of all VMware and Power resources required for development and testing, along with automated on-demand deployment of mainstream operating systems and applications. Core capabilities include:

• Electronic approval workflows for resource requests

• Unified resource management, automated provisioning, and lifecycle management

• Resource monitoring and health management

• Platform management and automated upgrades for base software

• Configuration asset inventory management

BoCom Card Center leadership placed great emphasis on project progress. Throughout implementation, all departments and teams at BoCom Card Center worked closely with Cloudchef’s delivery team, ensuring rational planning and on-schedule advancement toward a successful launch.

BoCom Card Center had extensive customization requirements. However, to support future upgrades and maintenance, the entire team adhered to a platform-based, product-driven delivery approach, meeting the project’s diverse requirements through configuration items. Although this significantly increased development complexity and workload, it effectively safeguarded the long-term, sustainable development of BoCom Card Center’s private cloud.

The impact of SmartCMP on BoCom Card Center’s business needs is demonstrated through:

• Standardizing development and testing resource request processes through service catalog management, promoting agile development and faster business launches, and resolving the conflict between low resource utilization and tight dev/test resource availability

• Digitizing the resource request workflow with self-service request capabilities and on-demand automated delivery, transforming the predominantly manual resource scheduling and configuration model into an automated one. Approval processes previously measured in weeks have been compressed to a single day or even hours, dramatically accelerating resource request and delivery efficiency

• Better supporting business needs through elastic resource provisioning and automated deployment, shortening IT infrastructure delivery cycles for development and testing environments, and improving overall IT service levels
